"Imagine"
Lennon's Impact
John Lennon likely had more impact on the band and the world than any other member. Upon John's marriage of Yoko Ono, disagreements amongst the Beatles became more prevalent. More often than not, Ringo was the peacekeeper among the band, while Lennon, the anti-war pacifist, had begun the whole issue. All was not bad with John, however, as his imagination soared with new ideas. "Revolution 9", a very odd Beatles song, was a result of this as Lennon believed that the public would buy anything just because of the name behind it. An even more controversial song was soon to come. Titled "Imagine", it spoke of ideas about religion and how many different beliefs there were relating to it. Here's an excerpt of the lyrics:
"Imagine there's no heaven, it's not hard if you try, no hell down below us, above us, only sky..."
Obviously, outrage followed, and Lennon's notoriety- as well as that of the band- grew.
